Just note that Inkscape was not built 'to offer an Adobe Illustrator alternative'. It was built because some then-young developers enjoyed building and tinkering with an open source vector graphics editor, that uses the standardized SVG file format, and that works on Linux and will be free for everyone to use and modify.

In the Cloud documents tab, select the document. To view all versions of the document, click the Version icon on the right. Select the version you want to revert to. Then click the More options icon and select Revert to this version. The version you reverted to becomes the current version of the document. To save a version, click the Mark icon. Likewise, this dual path approach is used in newer versions of Adobe Illustrator when EPS compatible files are created and saved. AI files are saved as vector images. This means that the image quality is not getting lost if the user enlarges the image. More information about the AI file format. Today I received a logo from a client that was built using the latest version of Illustrator. I am still using CS5 and it didn’t want to open the file. Sometimes you don’t have time to track down someone with a new version of Illustrator or to request the file to be saved in another.

That, being a vector graphics program, it's incidentally a cost-free alternative to Illustrator has nothing to do with Inkscape itself, only with the people who don't like the other program. Personally, I've never used Illustrator, so for me, it doesn't even matter if that exists or not. I enjoy being here and helping other users, though, and I use Inkscape to create my graphics for the events I organize.

The import is one of many features (personally, I wouldn't need it at all), and Inkscape is an open source program, with limited developer resources. Everyone who uses Inkscape can contribute to its development. Any complaining is kind of directed at the wrong people, because ultimately, it's the users who build their own program. It is already free, and developed only by volunteers. Make it happen :)
